Pastor Denise Horn

I am Pastor Denise Horn, your interim minister.  I will be working with Trinity Lutheran, Greencastle for a time until either a new pastor is called, we extend my 1 year contract or we decide on another arrangement is necessary.

I am married to Pastor Martin Horn who serves ELC, Greencastle.  We have three adult children: Michael, who resides in Springfield IL, and Rachel and Tim who both reside in Greencastle.  We also have two elderly cats, Milo and Leo.

As to schooling, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and History from the University of Connecticut, and I studied at the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia and Gettysburg Seminary.  I have been pastoring at Salem, Marion for the last 19 years, 4 months.

I was born and raised Lutheran, growing up at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Torrington, CT, and felt called to ministry as an adolescent.

I am from Northwestern Connecticut and yes, I am a dyed in the wool New Englander, and YES, I love winter especially if it snows!  I keep an ear to Sports.  I follow the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and sometimes even the Eagles.  I’ve been a Red Sox fan since I was a child.  I follow Premier League Football (soccer) mainly Arsenal FC, as well as the New England Revolution and the Midnight Riders.  I also keep an ear to Wales. Rugby.  I do this to keep up with my sons.

Some of my hobbies include gardening with my daughter, growing trees, music, mainly classical, but also folk and I don’t mind a bit of Beatles now and then.  I am an amateur Astronomer as well, and Pastor Martin and I have a telescope that we pull out on occasion.  I like to build jigsaw puzzles, read British mysteries and occasionally crochet.

My devotional practice is journaling I write out prayers for various folks and other concerns I have.  I will be praying with you and for you, and ask that you pray for me, for Trinity, and one another.

Our Church thrives because of the energy and style of the people who are a part of our leadership. Here are a few of the people that make our church community special:

Director of Music

Saundra Wingert began her musical ministry at Trinity in January of 2016. She directs the music program.  Saundra’s vision is helping our faith family encounter Christ in worship as a community with diverse music and instruments.  She directs both the choir and praise band.  Saundra is a lifelong resident of Greencastle. She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1976 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Oral Roberts University in 1980. She has been a soloist and piano player for a variety of community and church programs throughout the Greencastle area. She married Ivan Wingert in 1980 and they have two children.
